The World’s Longest Yard Sale With Krylon

  • By
  • August 10, 2015

Hello lemon-droppers!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! I spent Saturday in Cincinnati at the World’s Longest Yard Sale. Krylon invited me, along with several other awesome bloggers, to come hang out with them.

Krylon - bloggers

We had a blast shopping and checking out all of Krylon’s amazing products – some I didn’t even know about. For example, did you know Krylon has a chalky finish spray paint? If you’ve ever priced chalk paint, you know it can be a little on the expensive side so I am totally *pumped* to try this product out!

Krylon World's Longest Yard Sale

If you’ve never heard of The World’s Longest Yard Sale, it starts in Michigan and stretches all the way down to Alabama and lasts for 4 days – basically, a bargain hunter’s dream! Krylon’s mission was to find and transform 127 things for their first ever Pinterest yard sale, which goes to benefit Charity Wings. And – lucky you – the yard sale is open as of today! Head on over to find some awesome buys that go to benefit an awesome charity!

And be sure to check out all the other bloggers I was able to team up with!

Happy shopping!

Remember, Remember…

  • By
  • October 11, 2013

…the 9th of October. Doesn’t quite have the same ring to it as the famous saying associated with Guy Fawkes Day. But, seriously, Wednesday will go down in history as the day this girl was featured on Young House Love. Cue the shrieks of joy/weeping.

Let me break it down for you.

3:49 pm – My friend, Whitney, posts this on my Facebook wall:

Lemon Drop Life

3:53 pm – I see the post and immediately start having heart palpitations.

3:54 pm – I go check out YHL, and miracle of all miracles, Roarke’s nursery was featured as one of their Reader Redesigns!

3:55 pm – I find an empty office (I’m at work when all of this is going down, btw) and do a happy dance while calling JP to squeal in his ear for about 5 minutes.

4:00-4:30 pm – AKA the LONGEST 30 minutes I’ve ever spent at work.

4:31 pm – I leave work and may or may not have shed a couple happy tears on my way home.

4:36 pm – I get home (yep, I live literally 5 minutes from work) and peruse the YHL post again and realize I FORGOT TO INCLUDE A LINK TO MY BLOG IN THE POST. Doh, what a rookie mistake!

4:38 pm – I tweet frantically at John & Sherry trying to correct my oopsie. And eventually, they update the post with a link to my blog.

At this point you may be thinking, “Uh, brag much, bro?”, but I’m not saying all of this to toot my own horn – ok, maybe a little..I worked hard on that nursery! But there’s a bigger point to my rant here. I submitted that room months ago on a whim, and I never expected anything to come of it. I was happy just thinking that J & S (I feel like we’re on a first initial basis now) might glance at the e-mail and think, “Oh, that’s a cute nursery.”

So I say alllll of that to say this: go big. Do things that excite/scare you. Take a chance. You never know what may come of it!

{And to any new Lemon-droppers stopping by from Young House Love: welcome, friends! Imagine me running towards you in slow motion with a big cheesy grin and my arms open wide. Stay awhile, take a look around. I’ve recently updated my About Me, House Tour, and Travel pages and I’m working on a Project Gallery! Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or just want to chat!}

Check Me Out

Hi all! Just wanted to quickly drop in today with a few random tidbits. Most importantly, I wanted to let you guys know that I recently had an article go live over on Home Made Simple. I covered the topic of how to clean your toaster.

Now I know what you’re thinking: that’s not the most exciting subject matter in the world. BUT did you know that not cleaning your toaster can present a fire hazard for your home? Yeah, no bueno. So go check out my simple tips for keeping your brave little toaster (Do you guys remember that movie? I remember being super freaked out by the evil electromagnet in the junkyard) sparkling clean. Check out my article here!

Secondly, when I did my reader survey a few weeks ago, a couple of you asked how our pooch was getting along with our little one. I’m pleased to say that she has been great! She barely pays attention to him, just walks by him every now and then and gives him a little lick on his head. It has been quite the relief to know they get along (at least for now)!

And finally, if you guys havent’ downloaded the new app from A Beautiful Mess, you are missing out! It is SO much fun to edit your photos with all their extras!! I was a ha-yuge Lisa Frank sticker lover as a kid…I can remember sitting with a few other girls at elementary school recess to look at each others stickers. Yes, I’m a dork. But seriously, this app is like my grown-up Lisa Frank collection. I love it!

Is This Real Life?

  • By
  • February 26, 2013

I didn’t start blogging with the intention of gaining a lot of followers or ever even getting noticed, really. I started it as a way to motivate myself to do some of the projects I had floating around in my head. And I fell in love with it from the very first time I hit ‘Publish’. I instantly loved the creative outlet it gave me and so many people (both those I knew and those I didn’t know) were supportive of it. And I’ve SO enjoyed watching it grow little by little and I’m very thankful for each of the opportunities that’s come my way because of this blog. I could do it without all of YOU!

Ok, enough gushing.

I was recently browsing through my traffic sources on Google Analytics and I saw a referral from Apartment Therapy. My first thought was, “That can’t be right.” So I clicked over only to see that someone nominated this little ol’ blog for a Homie!

If you don’t know what The Homies are…they are a super awesome award for Home and DIY bloggers. Basically The Oscars of the bloggy world. And not only did someone nominate me, but TWO whole other people voted for me!

Now obviously I was nowhere CLOSE to winning, but I am seriously over the moon just to be in the same list with all those other awesome bloggers. Seriously…it’s crazytown. So a huge resounding THANK YOU to whichever one of you sweet readers nominated me…you made my week for sure!!

And just when I thought things couldn’t get any better, the nursery was featured on Apartment Therapy on Friday! Picture my 9-month preggo self doing the running man dance when I found out about that one. Pure hilarity, I tell ya.

So for those of you who may be new here: welcome to the family! You can check out my About Me page to get to know me a little better!!

And for those of you who have been long time readers, I’m giving you all virtual bear hugs…well on second thought, my belly is really huge and you probably couldn’t fit your arms around me…sooooo…virtual high five instead!

New Year, New Look

  • By
  • January 11, 2013

As you may have noticed, Lemon Drop Life has a new look! And I’m particularly excited about it, because the design is all my own!! Of course, I had to have my web guru help me out with all the coding and specifics on the back end (that stuff intimidates me in a major way), but I am so happy to have had a part in the makeover of my little blog-baby.

I’m craving clean and simple these days, so I really wanted to streamline things. Nothing too busy, instead just visually pleasing and user-friendly (at least I hope!).

There are some brand new category buttons that will guide you in the directions of the more popular categories around here. I’m also working on getting a full blown Project Gallery together, which will catalog all my old posts and make them a bit easier to find.

And my social media buttons are way prettier now. It doesn’t change what they do, but I just think people enjoy clicking on pretty things, don’t you?

Please bear with me if something isn’t working properly or is looking a little funky..we’ll try to get any bugs worked out ASAP!

Hope you guys enjoy the new look as much as I do!!
