Nursery Reveal!

  • February 15, 2013

It’s here, it’s here! Finally time to show you guys the nursery, wahoo!!! We’ve spent the last 3 months getting everything together and I am SO happy with the outcome.

Way back when, I shared our plan for the nursery and how we were going to give it an outer space feel as inspired by this mood board from LayBabyLay.

rocket-baby

I don’t want to keep you all waiting anymore…let’s dive right into the good stuff: the pictures!

I made the crib skirt using this tutorial from YHL. Wanna know a secret? There was no sewing involved!

Obviously there will be a changing pad on the changing table…hoping to pick it up at our baby shower this weekend!

The ‘3’ was the same one we used in this picture to announce our pregnancy to our families.

Some of the little details in the room are my favorite. For example, check out this adorable nightlight:

nursery_12

Right?!

This is the view sitting in the glider..the futon will serve as extra seating and an extra place for guests to sleep. We also intend to flank the large print with pictures of our little man once he gets here. And yes, some of you readers might be getting your first peek at his name 😉

nursery_11

I designed this print myself and had it printed at Staples. I am totally in love with how it turned out!

Now that this room is complete, I cannot WAIT to bring home our little dude. And we have our first baby shower tomorrow, so I’m totally pumped!

I’ll be back on Monday with a cost breakdown and source list (if there’s something in particular you’re wondering about, please let me know!) Until then, have a great weekend lemon-droppers!

It looks amazing, Dacia. Like a professional designer did it! But less cold and more loving.
    A perfect home for Roarke!

  • Taylor de Sa

Fabulous job! I love all the little details but I think the planet wall is my favourite!

  • jackie jade

this turned out great! nice work! i love this theme – it is so fun and that changing table is so cute too. where did you get that futon? we’re thinking of getting something similar to double for seating/extra sleeping space.

    • Dacia

It was from Target! Unfortunately, I can’t find the link for it anywhere online but it’s the same style as the Union Faux Leather Futon that you can find on their website. That one is a bit more expensive than ours, though.

  • Kerry

Great job, Dacia!! Bring him home?? Girl, just have that baby right at home in his adorable room!!! Ok, maybe not. But I LoVeD having my younger littles at home vs. my hospital births. I know – I’m not the norm. Have a relaxing last couple weeks or whatever home stretch you’re in… Enjoy anticipating your little one : )

    • Dacia

Ha, thanks Kerry! I think I’d be too nervous to attempt a home birth, but I know several people who’ve done it!

  • Dad

Looks great, Hon! I’m very eager to see Roarke in it! Love you!

  • Jenny @ DIY Newlyweds

OH my! I love it… especially the focal wall! My husband even peeked over my shoulder and said how great this is. He’s got a slight thing for outer space and despite having a nursery planned for our future daughter, the likelihood is that we’ll have a boy and this is the perfect inspiration for us. Thanks for sharing!

  • Megan

Love the nursery. That wall is too cute. I am actually working on a Robot/Space themed nursery for number 3 and am also a midwest blogger. A planet mobile is on my must buy list. I have been thinking about the one at PBKids. I was wondering where yours was from.

    • Dacia

Ours is from PBKids! I posted the source list for everything today if you want to take a look!

  • Gretchen@BoxyColonial

Just saw your feature on Tatertots and Jello…and, wow–I LOVE this room! That solar system wall is amazing. Loving the name art (cute name, btw!) and the vintage space art.

Awesome nursery! Great job 🙂 Really cool concept and amazing execution. Love it. FYI – I came across your blog from the change table feature over on ‘better after today’ (and my yellow dresser is featured right below yours!) Fun stuff. New follower alert!

    • Dacia

Thanks Elaine! Your yellow dresser turned out great!!

  • Paw-paul

Wow! Looks like better homes and gardens. All we need now is Roarke.

  • sondra

Stopped by from A to Z, and wanted to tell you how much I love your nursery design! The planet wall is great and everything looks so fresh and ready for your little one! Thanks for letting me have a look! We are planning on the planet wall for our grandson who is 4. I didn’t think about embroidery hoops for the planets! Great idea!

  • Kate

I absolutely LOVE this nursery!!! I even think it could be an adorable little boys room as well!! My 7 year old would love it!! You really did an amazing job!! Even my husband would love this!! He is a huge star trek fan though so I’d probably have to throw in the star trek symbol somewhere lol Im definitely going to use this for inspiration!! We are going to start trying for another baby in the next couple months and if we get a boy I’m def going to attempt to do a nursery like this!! And if we get a girl I’ll just do my 7 year olds room like this lol
Congrats on your little one and once again great job!!

  • Kate

PS~ Great job picking out Grey’s that turned out grey!! We just recently redid our bathroom and it took us three tries before I got a true grey!! The first looked grey in container and in rolling pan then went on and dried slate blue!!! The second was a lighter grey and went on a white, grey, powder blue mess of a color!! lol We finally learned after the second gallon and bought two sample sizes before choosing our final color lol

    • Dacia

Thank you, Kate! Yes, I think grey is the definitely the hardest paint color to get right..it always look so different in the can versus on the wall!! Hopefully you can find another use for the colors that didn’t turn out so well. Thanks again for stopping by 🙂

      • Molly

I love the paint color. Do you by chance know what colors these are that you used?

        • Dacia

Hi Molly! The light gray is Rocky Bluffs by Valspar, lightened by 25%. The darker gray is Semi Sweet, also by Valspar!

  • Ceci Bean

This is stunning!! It’s so creative, unique…I love that. I have twin boys that are 10 months old. For now they are sharing our bedroom but we are hoping to move within the year and I would love to do something similar for their room. How did you determine the proper sizes for the planets’ proportions? What about the designs for painting the planets? You and your family did an amazing job. Good luck with the new baby!!

    • Dacia

Thank you, Stephanie! As far as the planet sizes, I just googled around for a diagram of all the planet sizes relative to each other and winged it from there! And that’s just fabric inside the hoops, no painting required..super easy!!

  • Natasha

Do you have instructions somewhere on your site on how to set up the wall with the planets? How did you attach them? What are they made of?

    • Dacia

You got it, Suzanne! Gotta love free graphics!!

  • kristin e

Love the nursery! Where did you get your crib? Looking for something just like this for our little girl!

    • Dacia

We got it at Babies R Us..it’s the Bassettbaby Ava 4-in-1 crib 🙂

  • Liz

    Hi,
Could you give me the name of the paint you used for the changing table?
    Thank you!
    Liz

    • Dacia

Hi, Liz! It’s ‘Macaw’ by Behr!

  • Manda Wolf

That is really cool, I can’t wait to show my hubby he is going to geek out like a 6 year old!

  • Amber

We bought our house in 2011. Our son decided before we bought the house that he wanted a space room. Picked up a fan by Hunter that is a space fan. The bedding and canvas prints on the wall are from Target’s space line. I love the solar system on the wall in your nursery. What are the two gray paint colors you used? I am painting his room this week! Great job and I am totally in love with the nursery.

    • Dacia

Thanks, Amber! The lighter gray is ‘Rocky Bluffs’ by Valspar (I got it lightened by 25%), and the darker gray is ‘Semi Sweet’ also by Valspar.

  • Lori

I love your nursery, great job on the solar system wall! Can you share where you purchased the rug and curtains from?

    • Dacia

Hi Lori! The rug was purchased from rugsusa.com and the curtains were just plain navy curtains from Target that I embellished. You can get the details here!

  • brianne

how did you do the solar system? I love it! I can’t find a tutorial on line anywhere….?

  • Jonathan Encarnacion

I was inspired by your idea and decided to do my son’s nursery with a solar theme. Making the pinstripes try to curve was tough however. Thanks for the inspiration.

    • Dacia

You’re welcome, Jonathan! Thanks for stopping by!!

  • Lenora

Hey there! I could have sworn I’ve been to this blog before
but after checking through some of the post I realized it’s new to me.
Anyhow, I’m definitely happy I found it and I’ll be bookmarking and checking back frequently!

    • Dacia

Aww, thank you Lenora! So glad you stopped by!!

  • Mrs. Squirrel

Thank you for sharing — my 6 year old wants a space bedroom, and I’m going to try and do something similar!! Amazing job! And again, thank you for sharing how you achieved it!!

  • Robin

    Hi Dacia,

I love your nursery. I’m decorating a friend’s nursery and trying to duplicate the solar system featured in your room. I’ve purchased embroidery hoops for the planets but I’m having difficulty finishing the edges. I don’t want the frayed fabric edges to show. What’s the secret…. if you don’t mind sharing.

    Thanks

    • Dacia

I cut the fabric big enough so that there was excess all around the hoop, and then once I had the hoop locked down, I trimmed down the excess and used fabric glue to adhere it to the inside of the hoop. Hope that helps!

  • Kara barrett

I am searching rugs usa.com and can’t find the rug. Do you have the name of the rug??? I LOVE it. Thx

    • Dacia

Unfortunately, I no longer see it for sale on their site. If you search ‘star trellis’, you’ll see a few similar options.

Hello, I can’t find the rug for sale anywhere. I have fallen in love with it. If it is no longer in use in your household, would you be willin to sell as used and ship. If you do, consider me.
