As I mentioned in this post last week, I’m working on FINALLY getting our guest bathroom in order. I’ll reveal which color scheme I went with soon, but first I wanted to show you a quick little DIY project I did.

I much prefer the look of a hook over the standard towel ring. But I decided that instead of just screwing my hook into the wall, I would jazz it up a little and make it a functional piece of décor!
So here’s what you’ll need: a piece of wood (I had mine cut to measure 6” x 12”), a pipe clamp (found in the plumbing section), a hook, and an 8 oz. mason jar. And then depending on what look you’re going for, you might also want to pick up some paint or stain for your board. Also, you’ll need a way to hang it when you’re done: either a picture hangar or command strips.

Originally the pipe clamp was silver, but I hit it with a little Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint so that it would match my hook. I also stained my board with MinWax’s Dark Walnut (my fave) stain. If you’ve never stained anything before, it’s basically the easiest process in the world… just wipe it on, let it sit, and wipe it off. You can apply as much or as little as you want. After my board was dry, I screwed my hook in. I ended up using two screws I had in my stash because the ones that came with the board were too long.

Then, I attached my pipe clamp using two screws . I screwed the first one almost all the way in and then fit the pipe clamp underneath it.

Then I screwed my second one on the underneath side to hold the pipe clamp in place.

Before you tighten your screws all the way in, you want to make sure that your pipe clamp is the size it needs to be to squeeze the mason jar in snugly. After you tighten both screws down, you should be able to gently work your mason jar into place. And voila!

Super cute towel holder for my guest bath! You could even use the jar to hold toothbrushes or a little candle. Love it!
And here’s the cost breakdown for this project:
-wood: $6
-hook: $5
-pipe clamp: $2
-stain: free (already owned)
-ORB spray paint: free (already owned)
Grand total: $13
Have any of you made a unique towel holder for your bathroom? Anyone working on making their guest bath feel nice and cozy?

Oh this is adorable! I love that stain color! And we have a hideous towel ring in our bathroom that I keep meaning to do something about. This would be perfect! Thanks for the awesome idea!
This is such a cute idea! I love the mason jar flower vase as a decorative touch. I love the wrought iron look with the dark stain of the wood. It looks antique without trying too hard. Great project inspiration!
Thank you!
