Did everyone enjoy their Memorial Day weekend? I know I did! We had absolutely GORGEOUS weather here (high 90′s and sunny all weekend) and we were able to do a little bit of relaxing which was much needed!

But of course you guys know I couldn’t sit on my bon-bon all weekend long..I just HAD to get a little project time in :)

This one was an idea I’ve had floating around in my head for a couple months and I’m just happy to see it finally get done! It’s a little DIY art for our living room:

I’ve always been a Saved By The Bell fan. The episode where Zack and Kelly break up at the dance still makes me cry.

It’s the Holy trinity of some of my favorite trends: metallic, chalkboard, and scrabble letters.

I started with a 22 x 28 frame I bought at Hobby Lobby. I spray painted it with Krylon’s Ivy Leaf. Then I bough a piece of sheet metal from Lowe’s. {Sidenote: if you’re trying something like this yourself, Lowe’s was just about the only place I was able to buy sheet metal. Don’t know if that’s the same everywhere or not, though.} Then we cut our piece of sheet metal down to size using some tin snips. Caution: Use gloves when cutting sheet metal, it’s very sharp!

Once we had it cut to the right size, I used some Liquid Nails to adhere it to the frame. The frame I bought didn’t have a backing so that’s why this step was necessary. So, if you’re lucky enough to have a frame with a backing you wouldn’t need to worry about this step!

I also added some small finishing nails behind the sheet metal, just to be on the safe side.

While I was waiting for the Liquid Nails to cure up, I got to work on my DIY Scrabble tiles. I simply used the craft wood squares they sell at Hobby Lobby. Although they’re more like rectangles. I toyed with the idea of cutting them down to be squares, but in the end I decided I didn’t really mind the look of the rectangles. Then I just drew on the letters and numbers with pencil first, and then traced over and filled them in with a Sharpie.

Then I stuck a magnet on the back of each one so they would stick to the sheet metal.

Originally I planned to paint the chalkboard part on myself, but after thinking about it I decided to use vinyl decals instead. I wanted the option of being able to take them off if I ever wanted to change things up in the future. Unfortunately, though, I had a tough time finding decals as big as I wanted them (I was looking for them to be about 12″ long and 4″ tall). So, I hopped on Etsy and found a shop called HomesteadingCottage and the shop owner was nice enough to do a custom listing for me. She was great to work with and had my decals shipped out the same day I asked for them.

So once I got those, I stuck them on the sheet metal and I was good to go! I love that I have the ability to change it up at any moment. So one day it might look like this:

And the next day it might look like this:

That one was JP’s request. Someone’s a bit amped for the new Dark Knight movie.
