Tricky Target

Last Friday night (I can’t type that without breaking out into that stinkin’ Katy Perry song), JP had to attend a wedding rehearsal at our church for a wedding he performed on Saturday. Seeing as our church is a few hundred yards from our Super Target (which is basically heaven on earth..oh the irony), I decided to hop over there while I waited for JP to finish up. Big mistake.

I succumbed to Target’s beautiful displays and marketing basically the second I walked in the door. There’s a reason I don’t allow myself to go there very often: I always spend too much money! However, I have to say, this time I tried really hard not to go overboard and I didn’t allow myself to buy anything that wasn’t on sale.

So, ya wanna see what I got?

I snagged this pretty floral embroidered pillow on sale for $25. It goes perfectly with the blue/green color combo I’ve got going on!

When I stumbled upon this pretty white ceramic bowl, I was sure it would be at least $30…but much to my surprise it was on clearance for $8! I snatched the last one 🙂

I absolutely LOVE browsing the stationary aisle..the pretty designs suck me in like a tractor beam. I picked up this set for $6. The colors go really nicely with what I’ve got going on in the craft room and I think I might frame one of each as art.

Have you guys checked out the dollar section at Target recently? They’ve got some majorly ca-ute stuff! I picked up some colorful gift bags (perfect for those upcoming graduation/Mother’s Day gifts), an adorably bright storage box, and a super cute memo pad all for $1/each. I also grabbed that yellow ceramic planter for $2.50. Can’t beat that!

Oooh, you’re getting a sneak peek of something I’ve yet to reveal..mysterious 🙂

And yet another sneak peek..can you hearts even take the suspense?!

Is Target like Kryptonite for anyone else out there? My heart says love..my pocketbook says hate.

Happy Saturday, friends! It’s been a rainy day around here, and I’ve been busy doing some work around the house (don’t worry..you guys will get the scoop next week!). For now, let’s take a look at some beautiful, inspring, DIYs!

Kristine from The Painted Hive took some run-of-the-mill drawers from Ikea and turned them into a faux mini card catalog. Wouldn’t this be so cute to use to store recipes in the kitchen?

Courtney from A Little Glass Box recently redid a teenage girls room makeover and the result looks AWESOME! This is the stuff little girls dream about, people.

And last but not least, my sister-in-law, Ceara, recently started up a little DIY blog of her own and she’s been cranking out some cute stuff like this scarf-turned-dress. Check out her blog, {DIYConfessions}.

That does it for this week! See you guys on Monday 🙂

PicMonkey

If you do any online photo editing at all, you probably know all about Picnik and how it closed down last week. {If you don’t..there used to be a really awesome online photo editor called Picnik. And it closed down. Now you’re up to speed!} As a mourned the loss of my beloved friend, I was searching out new options and I think I’ve found the winner!

It’s called PicMonkey and it’s bananas (see what I did there?). The interface is super user friendly and it has all the features from Picnik that I knew and loved. Let’s take a look..

This is the basic edits menu. Obviously, this is where your basic edits (crop, exposure, etc.) are located. Don’t you love the cute graphic buttons? It makes me feel so hipster.

Here we have the touch ups menu. And the best part? They’re all free! This puts it a step above Picnik in my book, because with Picnik a lot of the touch ups were only available to paying customers. Woo to the hoo..I lurve my touch ups!

And of course, everyone’s favorite parts: the filters! PicMonkey offers a lot of the same awesome filters as Picnik plus a few new ones. I really have to restrain myself from applying 17 different filters to every picture I upload.

That’s just a few of the features they offer..I’m still learning about it myself! But one of my favorite parts is that the creators of the site definitely have my sense of humor. Just check out the message that pops up if you try to click away without saving your picture.

Hilarious, right? It’s a match made in photo editing heaven.

Holy cow..today marks one year since I started this little ol’ blog! That’s pretty unbelievable to me. And what’s even more unbelievable is that anyone besides my Mom is still reading! So, thanks to all of you dear readers for sticking with me and I hope to bring you lots of great new content in year number 2!

Now, let’s take a look back at my four most popular posts to date!

#4: Wax On, Wax Off

Our kitchen table was my very first furniture makeover and it garnered me quite a bit of traffic! Of course the makeover didn’t go totally smoothly, but you can read all about that in the original post!

#3: Shades of Gray

My third most popular post is the post about picking the perfect shade of gray for our living room..guess that’s something everybody is searching for, huh?

#2: Foiled

My aluminum foil tape wall I finished recently in my craft room proved to be pretty popular with you guys. And it’s definitely one of the easiest things I’ve ever done and had such a huge impact on the room (which is still a work in progress, but I have exciting updates on that soon!)

#1: Penny For Your Thoughts

And my most popular post by far has been my penny letters. I never expected this post to be so popular, it was kind of something I just did on a whim! Just goes to show that sometimes your spontaneous ideas can be your best!!

I have so enjoyed blogging and sharing my ideas and home with you guys over the past year. I truly appreciate each and everyone of you!

So tell me, what would you like to see more of over the next year?

Happy weekend, lemon-droppers! First things first, the winner of the Miracle-Gro sample is Jill!

I will be e-mailing you, Jill, to get your info so I can ship you your sample!

OK, now let’s get on to some Best In Show! It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these posts and I’ve really missed them!

First up, is a DIY tufted headboard from Melissa at 320 Sycamore. Her staple glun and hot glue method sounds like something I could manage pretty easily!

I love this simple hardware update from Kara of Kara Paslay Designs. The mixture of the gold leaf and the natural wood totally revs my engine!

Jen of I Heart Organizing recently added some molding detail to a wall in her master bedroom and I looove the way it looks! Such an easy way to add oodles of interest! {I also heart her bedding something major.}

Hmm, I’m sensing somewhat of a ‘simple makeovers’ theme this week…I’ve been so busy lately it seems like quick updates are all I have time to think about! Anyone figured out how to slow time down yet?

I’ve had a couple of light fixtures hanging out in the craft room that FINALLY got hung last week. One was for the craft room (I showed you guys that one a while back), and the other was for the entryway.

Let me start by saying that this is not a tutorial post. I know it’s supposedly an easy thing to do, and there are lots of good tutorials out there. But for now electrical work still feels like it’s out of my realm of skills. Plus, for the light in the entryway you have to stand on a really tall ladder, and momma don’t do ladders. So we had one of our electrician buddies come make the switch for us. I wasn’t even home when they swapped them (but hubby made sure to take before pictures for me..what a good man).

In the craft room, we started out with a standard ceiling fan. Blah.

But one wave of my magic home improvement wand, and presto-chango!

I an so in love with the flower detail on this pendant!

And look what pretty shadows it makes when the light is on!

My only dilemma with it is what kind of bulb I should use. Since the bulb is pretty well exposed, I’m wondering if I should upgrade to something prettier like an Edison bulb? Suggestions?

Now for the entryway light. Here’s what was there before.

Oh, hey the early 90’s threw up on my ceiling. And here’s what’s there now!

I have to admit, I’m kind of underwhelmed with this one. I really love the light itself (I got it for $30 at an antique shop), but I think the scale is all off for the entryway. It’s dwarfed by the space.

So I’m going to live with it for a while, but keep my eye out for other options!

Anyone made any presto change-o’s around your house lately?

Going Green

This post brought to you by Scotts®. All opinions are 100% mine.

The warm weather has me itching to do some landscaping around our house. The only problem? I have a black thumb. I know zilch about gardening..don’t even know where to begin. It goes without saying that I need all the help I can get to try and keep my flowers alive.

EnG Product Shot.png

So when I got an offer to receive a sample of the new Miracle-Gro Expand ‘n Gro™ Concentrated Planting Mix, I said, “Yes, please!” Just listen to all of its’ benefits:

-Up to 3x the Flowers and Veggies (versus native soil)

-Significantly improves soil for multiple years

-Concentrated planting mix expands up to 3X when water is added

-Feeds for up to 6 months

-All natural fibers hold up to 50% more water than basic potting soil

Pretty awesome, right? The part that I love is that actually improves my soil. That way when I kill my first batch of flowers (it’s inevitable people), I can come back next year and plant more and the soil will still be healthy! Woop!! It also doesn’t hurt that it feeds for up to 6 months because there is no way I would remember to add it more often than that.

So here’s the exciting part, readers. I have one free sample to give away to one of you! All you have to do is leave a comment on this post in the next 7 days, and I will pick the winner at random. Go on, comment..you know you want to!

PS – This is my first official giveaway..exciting!

My Spring Table Centerpiece

Happy Monday, lemon-droppers! Spring fever has hit in full force around our house, and I’m dreaming of bright colors, new landscaping, and yard sales! So to satiate my appetite for spring decor, I whipped up a new centerpiece for our kitchen table.

The idea sprung (haha, I’m so punny) from the little glass terrarium I picked up last weekend at a local flea market. It was the first time I had ever been there, and overall it was kind’ve a scary place. Let’s just say it’s where weird tchotchkes go to die. Case in point, these lovely salt and pepper shaker holders.

But, there were a few gems to be had, like my terrarium for instance. And the best part? It was only $8. I also picked up the wooden tray (originally from Pier 1) for $2. Me likey.

I knew I wanted to incorporate my brightly colored Fiestaware teacups into the vignette, so I grabbed a few of those along with some bud vases that I got at Target a couple years ago. I used some jellybeans as filler {disclaimer: the majority of those jelly beans may or may not have been eaten as soon as these photos were taken}.

And of course, what’s a spring centerpiece without flowers?? I took a trip to my beloved Hob Lob and picked up a few stems of flowers in this lovely tangerine color that I’m totally digging this spring. It makes me smile 🙂

Have you guys been getting out your spring decor? Who else is excited for the beginning of yard sale season?
