Seeing as how travel is a passion that both Jordan and I share, I wanted some art that I could DIY on the cheap to express that. So, I was searching around the blogosphere for some inspiration when I came across this:
How cute is that?! I decided to use enlarge stamps from our passports instead of using maps, though. I thought it would be a great way to commemorate some of our favorite places we’ve been! So, I just scanned pages of our passports into the computer, and then enlarged them until I had a decently large image of the stamp I wanted.
Once I had those printed, I did a google search to find a heart template and then cut each stamp out using the template.
I knew I wanted to do 2 horizontal rows of 3, so I just laid them out on a piece of off-white construction paper that I had cut down to 8”x10” (the size of the frame). I realized that I couldn’t fit 3 hearts straight across without them going off the page. So, I decided to stagger them, and I’m actually much happier with how it turned out!
I then used a little spray adhesive on the back of each one, and then used the same spray adhesive to attach the construction paper to the cardboard from inside the frame. The frame was one I picked up at the dollar store for..wait for it…a dollar! It was originally black, but 4 coats of my trusty white spray paint fixed that! If I had used primer, I probably could’ve gotten the job done in 1 or 2 coats, but I didn’t have any on hand.
Once everything was secure, I did a quick coat of Modge Podge just to act as a sealant/protectant, and then let it dry! And acutally, the picture below isn’t totally accurate. After I realized that a good chunk of the top hearts were cut off by the frame, I moved them down. I was just too lazy to take another picture! But now I can add it to my expanding gallery wall in our living room (more on that at a later date).
